Dear Greg,
Well, here it is, finally! Sorry I took so long, it's a habit of mine. First of all, the disk. Your NFL file is on there, still zipped. Additionally, TMGDEMO.EXE is a slideshow demo of The Master Genealogist. You can run it right off the floppy or copy it to your hard drive. Step by step it will show you a lot of the features of the program, but it only scratches the surface. There is a DOG file on there, too. It is a text file containing a list of features. It can be printed by running the batch file, PRINTDOGBAT. I'll be interested to get your reaction. I have been using genealogical software for five years and this is the first one to really get me excited.
And now, for the rest of the story—
Here is a list of items I have sent you:
Also on the disk, a file named J LAMBERT.WRI. It is a dump of the descendants I have for John Lambert and Elizabeth Sayre. It is saved in MS Write format and displayed in courier so things will line up. You can open it in Write or Ami Pro. Enjoy the viewing and let me know if you find me in there anywhere! You and I are third cousins, three times removed.
A draft of the first few pages of my grandmother's autobiography (Bertha Elizabeth Lambert Harris). In it, she is talking about her grandmother, Elizabeth Stanton Lambert. It contains her recollections of her when she was a child and provides a little color about her.
An excerpt from the autobiography of Eliza Rebecca Lambert Hopkins. Her father was Reece Benjamin Lambert, son of Abner and Elizabeth Stanton Lambert. More color about her, even the color of her eyes!
A transcript of Elizabeth Stanton's autobiography. It includes a photo of her taken in her later years.
A copy of the original "copy" of Elizabeth Stanton's autobiography as I found it in the Friends‘ Library at Swarthmore College. It's only two pages, but I'd love to see your face when you realize it is in her own handwriting.
A photocopy of an obituary for Elizabeth Stanton. The newspaper is not identified or dated, but I hope to attain that documentation.
[End of Page 1]
A printed descendancy chart showing the relationship between Elizabeth Stanton and Edwin McMasters Stanton. They are second cousins, descended from Henry Stanton, but different wives of his.
A photocopy of the Record Page owned by Bette Lambert Knapp that lists John Lambert, Elizabeth Sayre, and their children and dates of birth. This is the document that we have used like a family Bible record for this family. With a name like Lambert, you need more proof than the IGI to document a relationship.
Photocopies of the gravestones and inscriptions for John Lambert and Elizabeth Sayre, and two of their children who died about the same time and are buried under a double headstone. Must have been a disease or something, don't know.
Lastly, for now, a map of the Morgan and Athens County area of Ohio, and one of Marion Township. I need to explain some possibly confusing geographic history that makes my data appear to have inconsistencies in it. The Lamberts moved in 1836 from Belmont County to their new farm in Marion Township, Athens County. This is the same township where Chesterfield is located. What you must be aware of is that Marion Township was originally it Athens County, but became a part of Morgan County in 1845. Therefore, you may see some references to Marion Twp, Athens, OH and some to Marion Twp, Morgan, OH. They are the same place, but at different times. I am still straightening them out in the database. Also, Chesterfield is the original name of that town, but when they opened the post office in 1838 they couldn't use it as there was another Chesterfield in Ohio. So, they left the town name as Chesterfield and named the post office Chester Hill. Some referred to the town in that way, also. In 1895, Washington took the space out of the name and called it Chesterhill, as the town and the post office has been known since then. The NW quarter of Section 13 was the original Abner Lambert farm. The Twp map shows Reece Benjamin Lambert and Elizabeth P. Lambert, their children, along with Elizabeth Stanton Lambert's property.
Hope this gives you enough to get started and keeps you busy through the holidays. Look forward to solving a lot of mysteries with you.
Sincerely,
Paul J. Harris
