Context

The First Presbyterian Church 620 W. GENESEE STREET SYRACUSE 4, N.Y. Oct 17, 1954 Dear Dick: - Enclosed you will find a copy of Boromon's talk which he used at mother's service. I have had copies made for all of us. Thank you for your good letter. I hope the challenge of a new school year and you new equipment has re-awakened your enthusiasm. I too miss Mother very much, especially when I think she was living with us here just a year ago. But she is far better off now and we should be thankful that she did not remain a helpless invalid or a severe mental case. The finest thing we can do in honoring her is to re-dedicate ourselves to our work "while it is yet day" for us, and show the same love and devotion she had to those whom we serve. She was always so proud of you and your work among the youth — as we all are proud of what you are doing. I am confident you will be guided in your decision whether or not to remain there. How about coming over for Thanksgiving or Christmas? Plan to come for at least one of them and help to enjoy our big house. Jimmy loves his Kindergarten experience and Suzie likes the new school and is busy with ballet, piano lessons and Brownies and choir. Diane is the busiest of us all. We have a new member in our family — a 17 yr old girl from the children's orphanage here. She is a Jr. in Central Hi and is a foster - child in our home. "Elly" is a nice girl and fits in well with our kids and is a great help to Caroline. She seems like a part of the family now. Let us hear from you. Try to see Aunt Carrie as often as you can. Life will be changed without uncle Ott and her. It is hard to believe that these changes are taking place and that ours is soon the senior generation. Write whenever you can. All send their love. Affectionately Jim Yes — those letters and memoirs are beautiful. I am arranging with a secretary here to type Mother's memoirs, How much do I owe you for the flowers for Ione? Please send me your address and phone number.
