Dear uncle Charles:
A note from Max E. Wilson, Rt 4 Ellensburg, Washington through our Publishing House brought quite a surprise and a glad one too. The last address I had and where I wrote you was Prosser, Warren Co. I do not recall the date of your leaving Ohio nor where I was located at the time. Many changes have taken place since then some of which perhaps you have not learned. All of my mother's brothers and sisters are gone. Uncle George died in June 1934. His wife is still living. Jordan and Ida are now with their daughter Nellie Rau at Kirkwood, Missouri. They were in Miami Fla. for about 14 years until Ida's health broke about 18 months ago. Their address is 549 East Argonne Drive, Kirkwood, Mo. George and Lide Hanson are still at Mt. Hermon and working as busily as ever. John Huffman died in 1916 and Lucy now lives in Amesville. Her oldest son Guy lives at Nelsonville and has grandchildren. The other son Ira died in the hospital at Cols. Several years ago. Frank is at 1045 Florida Ave. Akron, Ohio. His wife died several years ago. Carlos and Ida are both gone and the children live in Akron. Agnes's husband, Harry Bender, is professor of mathematics in University of Akron. My wife still permits me to live with her. We were married June 30, 1898. We have four boys living, one died in Columbus October 24, 1920 at the age of 15 ? yrs. Paul Joseph, our oldest son, is with the Wilding Pictures Production Co. of Detroit and Chicago, does radio work, writes advertising etc. He has a little girl 12 years old. Daniel Alfred, recently married, lives in New York. He is a grand opera singer. He spent four years in Milan Italy, four in Paris, Brussels, etc. and two years in N.Y. He is now singing with the grand opera at the zoo in Cincinnati. We saw him recently. James Lowell received the degree of Master of Sacred Music in Union Theological Seminary, New York in May. He is now with a boys' camp in New Hampshire for the summer but will return to N.Y. in Sept. to complete his theological work next February. He expects to be a minister of music in churches. Richard (named for his great great grandfather) is at home and will complete his Master's degree in Ohio State University next June.
Ollie Harris is dead, yes the entire family except Watson (in the old home R.F.D. Sharpsburg, Ohio) and Mark, in Oklahoma I think. Aunt Sarah is gone. Fannie Caldwell is at R.F.D. Frost, Ohio. Augusta in Cleveland, Edith in Springfield. Do not know Austin's address. Lizzie in Cincinnati, do not know about Georgia. Many gathered for aunt Date's funeral. Jennie Hanson is dead, Laura is in Marion, Bliss is in the Northern part of Ohio. I omitted to say that Howard is on the old home place, Leonard and Seth are in Westerville. One of Nettie Harris' girls is teaching in East High School in Cols.
You may be interested to know a little about my own work. I was at Portsmouth 4 years, Hillsboro 3 yrs. Fifth Ave. Columbus, 9 years, building the church and parsonage, superintended Southeast Ohio Conference 1919 to 1929, living in Westerville, president of Bonebrake Seminary 1929 to 1933, spent a year in Florida (largely on account of Richard's health) then took up the pastorate at the Hilltonia U.B. Church in Columbus. It is a mission church and the support is small but we are very happy although poor as ever. We have a fine people and enjoy them very much. They have asked to remain next year. Our conference meets in Westerville 12 miles North September 2.
I note that Dr. Hamilton died recently. I think he cared for your injured knee. I shall be glad to hear from you and if there are questions about the people I shall be glad to try to answer them. We may go to Mt. Hermon homecoming Aug. 8-9. I hope you are in good health and happy.
Affectionately, \{Joseph Hastings Harris\}
