Context

9-10-1988 Dear Dick: Greetings! We were so glad to have that good letter from you. We sense a rather firm commitment to the idea of some By—Pass. We are sure if this has been recommended, those who suggest this are as sure as human beings can ever be that this is the preferred choice. Please let us know if this gets in the appointment book and you are told: Now tomorrow we want you to stay fasting. We are taking you to the Operating room. Fred and Pauline are coming here next week! They will be bringing Sara Kate Steck. She has never been here. Fred is SURE By—Pass was the route for him. Angina which was his principal problem pre-surgery is gone! He was a bit surprised at the slowness of the convalescence but his mood is up beat and he looks forward to a jaunt up I-75 like a high school kid! Wish we could put his base horn and Al Shrader's trombone and Ed Burtner's trumpet and your piccolo together and we would make Mr. Dew wish he was back directing Westerville's Summer Band. Oh, yes, Glenn with his clarinet! Wouldn't that be a group! We are still working on Ryder's History and we are up to 1974-5. In another year we will have moved back to the USA and our direct involvement in the hospital affairs will have ceased. It has been an interesting project. There is still a lot of fine tuning that needs to be done. Did you get to read the 100 year History that Ed did for Fairview! It was short and pared down to the bone, but an expert job! Did you go to Fairview then there or down to First Church along with J. Gordon, A.T. Howard, J.R. Howe, etc. Well, we are pulling for you, Richard. Keep us informed. Our fingers are crossed in your favor. Let all go well! We send our very very best wishes! J&V Enclosed, a pic of me at the word processor. Maybe my eyes are closed! It happens!
