My Dear Brother & Sister:-I greatly enjoyed the account you gave of the final events in connection with the passing of our dear and highly beloved brother Jordan, and believe I dropped you a note but am not sure. I did write a full letter to Nellie and family, and she was kind enough to speak of its help to them in her wire to me later.
I was just getting settled from that first event when I got the wire from Nellie regarding the sudden passing of her Mother, and rushed a special letter to the by air so they might get it before the service. While at the P.O. I tried to drop a hasty card to you tho it was such a nervous scrawl I doubt it you could read it. I then called you and talked with Bertha on the phone. Nellie was kind enough to say it was all right if I could not come, and it would have meant both Sat & Fie nights up on train, and back just in time to start my rounds Sun. A.M., with three preaching services, besides a part in S.S. & C.E., it seemed quite unwise for just a few hrs there on Sat.
I want to thank you for making the sacrifice of your trip there, and for the comfort you gave them. Nellie said the services would be conducted by the Presb. Pastor. I had urged him to get in touch with him when he went there two yrs ago, and Ida had said they had attended there some.
While it come as a blow to me, each and both of their going, it seems to me a great triumph of their strong & good lives which had always so fascinated me and inspired me on my way. Life had come to be a burden to Ida, and to Jordan in his accident and hospital experience 2 yrs ago & more, they had so wonderfully triumphed in their home life for 62 yrs or 61, had touched life at many angles and kept the faith, and their going almost side by side was to me a most beautiful thing. Indeed after Jordan went I prayed much that she might be kept as a little child until His good time, but that He would not let her suffer on too long when the joy of the infinite life beyond with the bliss of their reunion under perfect conditions and superlative environment was waiting for them.
Withal, it is a glorious triumph which should inspire us all to the end of the way. Surely Heber must have been thinking of just such as they when he wrote- "They climbed the steep ascent of Heaven, Thru peril, toil and pain: O God to us may grace be given to follow in their train."
I trust both of you are well and all looking bright as you face a new year. The both of us have had some cold. I am glad to report both of us are going right on without much discomfort. So many have real Flu about here, and we have much sickness in our congregation. I think this cold weather will help to check it. Ruth went to here school work as usual this morning. She said tell you she appreciated the invitation to stop on her way home, as her cousin Alice had also written, Nut Natalie had some plans for her to stay on until after N. Yrs, and of course she wanted to be with her sister as long as she could.
May a kind heavenly Father bless you all with His richest gifts now and forever. With infinite love and blessing for you all,
Prayerfully, Ira.

Thank you so much for the "Upper Room." Also for paper. Your articles are fine. Thank you too for invitation to Pastor's Convention. If I come will let you know by middle of the month, but I now doubt it, as I hate to leave Ruth this time of year, with any feasible plans [...].
