Context

[Westerville, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Box 219, Athens, Ohio.] Westerville O. July 23, '97. Mr. J. H. Harris Plantsville O. My Darling Joe: — I have been sending to the post office about three times a day this week and have not received a letter. One week ago today I rec'd your letter which was written the 15, stating that your finger was better so I trust you are well before this. I am well and have been very busy this week. Father and mother will leave on the first car in the morning and will visit with father's people about a week. Then they will go on down to Athens Co. I do not know how long mother will be gone but she can stay until school opens if she desires. Elsie and Ira and I will have charge of the mansion. I do not know who will be “boss” but rather think I will. Otterbein and Carrie are both at Mr. Lane's and come home on Sun. I have not done much studying yet but hope to get at it next week. Westerville seems very quiet but it seems rather nice if I could fully exist by myself, but it seems that I can not. However I never spent a happier vacation in every respect. It is just what I have been wanting to do for so many years. I feel that God has been so good to me in answering my prayers. I feel that He is just working out everything all right. If we have to stay at home I believe it will be God's will, and if we are permitted to go to Africa or elsewhere, I believe it will be His will. I have so many things I want to talk with you about but we must simply wait. We are having some good lessons in patience I think. Now I have no doubt but what you have written but I am getting rather anxious. I have tried to think you are well and that it is the fault of the mail but if you are not well please let me know immediately. I hope I will hear from you tomorrow. I think of you daily and pray that God may preserve your life for usefulness. Although you are absent I love you more dearly than ever and look forward to the future with bright hopes. Your own true one Bertha Lambert.
