Context

{Thank you for being so patient. I wrote the letter 2 weeks ago and planned to send it all immediately, but my copying got interrupted by such mundane things as laundry, work, meal preparation, etc. There will be more but this should keep you busy for a bit. Louise} 1661 Oak Lane Quakertown, PA 18951-1915 March 12, 1995 Paul Harris 3923 Seeley Avenue Downers Grove, IL 60515 Dear Paul, Finally things have calmed down a bit and my research may not be under control but is at least manageable. I've wanted to get this to you for ever so long but time passes so Quickly! First, I'm enclosing copies of all the EMBREE information I have in my file. When you've had time to digest this and we have resolved whatever conflicts we have in the records, I will continue with other FGS, i.e. STARR, RICHARDSON, HARLAN, etc. You'll find a copy of the marriage record of Philip Dennis EMBREE and Virginia WOODYARD with the other things. I can't find what I used for the children and the birthdates. I would think that possibly I either copied Carrie Melva's birthdate wrong or that it was entered wrong in the source I used. I will keep looking because I know I didn't pull those dates out of thin air. I haven't been putting in sources for anything other than my direct line because I thought I would know where to find what I needed if I had the direct line. Guess that theory didn't work. (I thought my filing system and note taking had improved since I first started BUT I think this particular instance leaves that supposition open to doubt.) At any rate, I believe that she was probably born in 1862 or 1863. I will keep looking and let you know when I find the source. On the other conflict, James EMBREE (4609) being born 17, 4m, 1805. I made a mistake in copying from Hinshaw. It should have been 1, 9m, 1805. I have been a purist about recording Quaker dates because I have so many and started entering them in the old form. I'm not good at the translation from one form to the other because of the odd days, etc. Since March is the first month (1m), it all gets thrown off with 28, 30, and 31 days. At the Hall of Records, Annapolis, MD, I read Quaker Records of Stony Run Meeting, Baltimore MM - Western District, Membership 1807-1837 and 1837-1852 on microfilm #-580 (that is the number they used there - don't know if it is the same as the FHC. Unfortunately the reader/copier was ot working that day so I had no choice but to copy the dates by hand. I've enclosed a copy of my very badly handwritten notes. As you can see, both Jesse and [End of Page 1] Israel were born under that meeting. My time was very limited that day and I do hope to get back. Hopefully when I get back, the reader/copier will be working and I can get a real copy of the records for us both. Or, possibly the FHC has the same records on microfilm. I'll give that a try. The Cope and Ashmead book that I used as a source is a combined history of Chester and Delaware counties. Among the copies I've enclosed you'll find the title page to Vol. II with the pages I copied from it. I don't have a picture of James Embree's house in West Bradford Twp. but will make that a priority as soon as the weather is good for such things. I do get to Chester Co. fairly often because we are members of Longwood Gardens and we like to go to the gardens at least once each season to view and celebrate the change in seasons. The next trip will include a stop at the house for a picture taking! I will send along a copy and whatever I can find out about the house. The other real live EMBREE researchers I talked about are - Robert F. Ambler 4606 Drew Avenue North Robbinsdale, MN 55422 and Remi Embree (Mrs. Todd Embree) 500 Adams #13E North Brunswick, NJ 08902 Bob Ambler has done lots and lots of research on EMBREE and hopes to publish a book on the family some day when he has the time. He has been most gracious with his help and confirmation of my research and enjoys hearing from any EMBREE searcher. Please do write him and introduce yourself. He'll be glad to hear from you. Remi, as you can tell, married into the family. She is the mother of three small boys, a FHC librarian and the researcher in her family. I've met her and she is a sweet young woman who also will be glad to hear from you. I don't remember how much I told you about myself. If this is a repeat, just skip over it. I'm a postmaster in Richlandtown, PA with about 2 years to go until retirement. My husband, Stu, was in the steel business first with Bethlehem Fabricators and then with the Lehigh Structural in Allentown. Because of the economy, etc., he helped close up both those companies and was unemployed for a period of time. He has since worked as a consultant for Lehigh-Lancaster in SC and is now working as secretary/in-house computer authority for his brother who is an accountant. Needless to say, they are in their busy season. We are the parents of two daughters, Bonny and Jill, and the grandparents of four grandsons. Ryan, 4 going on 21, and Justin, almost 2, belong to Bonny and Mark, just turned 16, and Bryan, the most energetic 8 year old I know, belong to Jill. I understand your lack of time for genealogy with teenagers in the house [End of Page 2] and a living to make. I didn't even start genealogy until everyone had left home! Please keep in touch as you can and I will do the same. Patience is the name of this game, and I'm chasing so many lines at once that I do spread myself a little thin. I'm dreadfully behind in my correspondence! Thank you for responding to my original letter with the phone call. I can even talk now! Cousin Louise {Louise} {Paul, I (rather my computer) just figured out that we are 4th cousins and both 4th cousins, once removed to Todd Embree, Remi's husband. Hope you get to fly into Allentown someday. I'd love to meet you!}
