Iberia, O., Aug. 5, 1896.
Mr. J. H. Harris,
Athens O.
My Darling Joseph: — This morning finds me thinking of you and wishing you were here or I with you. I rec'd your last letter on Fri. Poor sweet Alice is through with her sufferings. It seems sad in one sense to think of such beautiful young lives being taken away but the Master “hath need of them.” Poor Ollie will feel that she is almost left alone in the world. I presume she is at home? I want to write to her.
Last Tuesday noon I went to Mt. Gilead and stayed until Fri. morning. I did not find it a very profitable place as I only sold nine studies but I was with friends and my expenses were very small. On Fri. I helped Lucy to entertain the widows of the congregation, and met my class. Sat. morning John took me to Galion where I remained until Mon. evening, and Rev. Oakes' came out for a drive and brought me to Iberia. I made my delivery of the Old Testament studies and sold seven more which makes 37 studies in all for Galion.
Mr. Oakes insisted that I would sing in his church Sun. morning and I sang “I love to hear my Savior's voice.” On Sun. evening I went out with Miss Murrel, one of our O.U. volunteers, and I can not tell you what a fine visit I had. It did me so much good to talk with her, and I came away with a new inspiration for our life's work. From this forward I will have three lessons per week and will finish up my work here Aug. 20. Then I can come home or go to Marion as I like, I hope you have gotten my letters before this and that you can now have the rest of the summer as you like. My concert will be Aug. 20. I am almost counting the days until Sept. 2.
I must close as it is mail time.
Lovingly
Bertha Lambert.
