Context

[Iberia, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Box 219, Athens, Ohio] Iberia, O., July 5, 1896. Mr. J. H. Harris, Athens, O. My Darling Joseph: — It would surely afford me pleasures untold to be able to spend an hour with you this evening, but that seems impossible so I will write. I arrived here Fri. about noon. Everyone seems very glad to see me and says they are glad to see me back. It was quite a pleasure to receive your letter last evening. I have hardly been alone since I came here but have felt so lonely I hardly knew what to do with myself. I am very anxious to get settled in my work and find out what I can do. The people seem to expect me to take up the music again so I will meet the junior class tomorrow and see what I can do. I expect to go to Galion Tues. and get my work started there. I rec'd the studies you sent. I surely thank you for the trouble and will send the pay soon. I am sure it is quite a favor and I appreciate your help and kindness so much. I will perhaps want to canvass some other towns around here if the work continues as well as it started. I have thought of Marion, Mt. Gilead, Bucyrus and possibly some other small places but as I write to the company every week I presume I can see about it without troubling you. I hope you can get to take up your work again for I know that your time just at present is very precious. The people seem to expect me to visit as much as I did last summer but that will be out of the question. I expect to have my classes here on Sat. & Mon. so that I can canvass the four days between. I have thought of you so much today. As I enter the rooms where we spent the happy visit of almost one year ago, I seem to live over that 24 hrs. and almost imagine you are here with me. I am looking forward to the future with great pleasure when I can daily realize such imaginations. John & Lucy are so kind to help me plan any thing, and to help me every way they can. I did indeed feel sad to leave home as it left Mother & Elsie alone and I knew they would be quite lonely. Yes I could have shed many tears but I thought I must be brave and so drove them away (most of them). John & Lucy send their kindest regards and also an invitation for you to visit them. May God keep us faithful and prosper us in our work in order that we may give more glory to Him. Your own true one (Iberia, O.) Bertha Lambert.
