Joseph Vincent Swartz was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and moved to Forest City, Pennsylvania,
when he was about one-year-old. His father, Vincent Swartz, was a coal miner. His mother,
Lorretta Sullivan, was from Pennsylvania. She died when Joseph was about 5-10 and remarried.
Joseph went to Hofstra University, had one year in Columbia University before getting married,
and later attended Harvard. He and Betty had a stillborn child about 1951 in Ohio. Worked for
GE in Cincinnati, then moved to Great Neck, New York, about 1955. He died 16 November
1975 at Good Samaritan Hospital, West Islip, New York. Buried at Pine Lawn National Cemetery.
He had a sister, Jean Marie Swartz, who was 5-6 years younger. She may have married an
Ericson and lived in Virginia. They had three children: Jean (II), Irene, and Kathleen.
He had another sister, ‘Allico,’ who died in the 90s. She may have married a Danny Varleife and
they had children Bobby and Fred, who may be dead.
He had a brother, Gerald Swartz, who may have had a son, Gerald, J r., and a daughter, Loretta. There is also a mention of a half-brother still alive in Boston.
