Context

[Ada, OH, to Miss Bertha Lambert, Westerville, Ohio, “Franklin Co.”] Ada, O. Dec 12, 1895. Miss Lambert, Westerville, O. My Darling Bertha: I will talk with you a few moments this afternoon although I shall ask you to pardon a short letter this time, not because I think of nothing not that I do not love my sweetheart as much as ever, but because so many things seem to want to crowd into the same space of time. Of course this little talk with you must come first. Mr. Brodnax, sec. S.V.M.F.M. was with us from Friday until Monday and boarded in our club. He was quite an inspiration to us and did much good in the school. I made a Philo of him. He is from Princeton College and now I feel like going to Princeton, but may stop at W. on the way. You need not worry about room at your home for I don't expect to sleep much (?) and that can be done in a rocking chair or like you did {ie} sleep in the day time. If I can get my exams. out of the way I want to spend Thursday evening with you, spend a day at Athens and get home Saturday, but I would have to leave here Thurs. morning as I believe the evening trains on T. & O.C. and C.H.V.T. do not get to Col until 9:30 or 9:55 which would be too late for street car I suppose and of course there is no train at that time. If I can arrange exams. for Wed. I will leave here Thursday but if not, of course only a few minutes can be taken Friday for a visit with you. I fear it will be doubtful about spending the second Sunday with you as I ought to be here by Friday of vacation wk. However as you are the main object in my leaving here this vacation, I shall endeavor to make everything bend to that arrangement best suited for your pleasure. “Is my rapture all complete, When our hearts together beat, And I crush the rose-mouth sweet? Nay! to make love's joy divine, I must brave the eyes that shine, Clear and trustful, into mine!” My delay in writing was caused by waiting to ascertain rates. A fine blizzard today. I am counting the days now. Your devoted Lover J. H. Harris.
