Context

Malcolm L. Smith P. O. Box 6712 Washington, D.C. 20020 Nov. 3, 1989 Dear Paul, I meant to respond to your letter before Oct ended but seem to have too many irons in the fire at times. Did I tell you I'm trying to sell this old property I've had at 3332 M St. S.E. for fifty years? Also I've been accepted for a one bedroom apartment in a nice retirement house at 14th and Mass Ave. N.W. in downtown D.C. That move is now set for late December with my daughter Grace, husband Steve and granddaughter Beth here for Christmas one last time and then the move. Thanks for you generous reaction to your reading of my book. Looking back at the point you make about the Stanton immigrants I think you are correct and that I made a mistake about Robert. My change in the birth year for Bertha Lambert came from a letter from Pauline Warfel; but I'm sure your grandmother would have had even more reliable data. But Pauline was quite specific in naming the ladies and describing events related to her father's four marriages. [End of Page 1] It is a long and somewhat rambling letter with some points I did not understand. I'll be happy to show it to you and have you test it against other information you have from Aunt Bertha and Uncle Joe Harris which I have not seen. My Illinois brothers now are Homer Smith at Route 1, Box 54, Ozark, IL 62972; and Sam L. Smith at 365 Barnett Drive, Edwardsville, IL 62025 telephone 618-656-0637. Homer is my older brother and is caring for his wife Ellen, who is now very frail, and a large number of cattle on his farm two miles from where we grew up. Sam, the youngest, has a responsible media position at S.I.U. Edwardsville campus and a lively group of grown children who are doing all sorts of interesting things. I'm sure you would enjoy getting acquainted with him. This should be a good month for your visit here, if you can make it. Give me a ring! Sincerely, {Malcolm} [End of Letter]
