Saturday noon.
Dear Dick,
Whether or not this reaches you Monday I wish you a very happy birthday — that I am wishing now — so it can't be late.
I am sending some things which you fellows may be able to use. /They should arrive Tues. or Wed./ If you have the coat cleaned and pressed and the collar shrunk or refitted one of you may be able to wear it during the spring. The shirts and collars you may divide up to suit your own tastes. If the necktie is too wild and wooly for you, sell it to the rag man. Please don't feel under any obligation to wear any of this junk. Don't think of them as "cast-offs." They're all in pretty good condition, but cannot be worn by this branch of the family because of size.
I can't begin to tell you how I have enjoyed all your letters, Dick — I can't begin because there's nothing to begin on. If I could manage to be within swatting distance I'd surely plant a few hefty wallops in the middle of your behind to make up for your negligence. Really, you have no idea of the pleasure a letter from you would bring to me. Just try it and see.
With best wishes for a happy successful life.
Affectionately, D.
