Context

Sat. Evening Dec. 11, 1976 Dear Dan and Aletha, I received your Christmas card (letter) and added note PLUS the check!! Thanks so much! Today Pauline Bierley brought in poinsettias from the Westerville Methodist (Messiah) Church Sunday School Class known as TEAMMATES. Other nice remembrances are coming in from other friends and students. Dr. Taylor told me today that the operation outcome, and recovery look very good. There was no indication of unfriendly growth. We have had some minor incidents with cuttings or clots stopping up the catheter, and a quick change was made from drug injection anti-pain to oral, when blood pressure went quite low. The pharmacist told me I would not make a good "junkie." But we're still here, with no definite prediction of when we leave. I have thanked Pauline for talking with you when I was resting up. I have had some pulmonary reaction to the anaesthesia — something like laryngitis. Sun. A.M. 12th Yesterday they took the I.V. Apparatus away, now took the catheter — a good friend, but bothersome one. I am now able to enjoy fine music via FM and University A.M. Apparently I'm to be here through Monday, but no definite word. I'll keep in touch with Bierleys. They've all been such helpful friends. It seems advisable to keep in close touch with Dr. Taylor in follow-up, but I'll discuss possibilities with him. I don't know whether I'll have to go thru any re-training for continence. Thanks for your love, and for just "being here!" Love you! Dick
