Context

[Westerville, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada, Ohio] Westerville O., 9-22, '95. Mr. J. H. Harris Ada O. My Dear Joe: — I rec'd your message Fri. morning as I went to class, but was compelled to wait two hours before I could read it, I had serious thoughts of getting dismissed from one of the classes but thought possibly it would keep. It found me enjoying school work and feeling much better than when I last wrote. We have almost all had a slight attack of malaria fever, and Ira has been quite sick for a few days, he seems a little better today and we hope he will get no worse but he is not out of danger yet. It has been very dry here all summer and water is quite scarce, which I think causes the trouble. But the rest of us are well now and I hope Ira will be in a few days. Carrie and I attended a social last evening given by the Athletic department. I enjoyed it fairly well to have no “point.” I was almost overjoyed to know that you thought of coming down some time soon. I had judged with a sad heart from your other letter that you were not coming until holidays. I will be happy to do my best at entertaining you at your earliest convenience. The time is immaterial to me, as I can visit at any time when I have an opportunity and I know it would be a great inspiration in my work. So suit yourself as to the time. I fear you would not study much if I were to try to help you with your lesson so I will leave that until a later period. Yes I would surely rather entertain you than any one else. In fact I like the work so well that I fear I am getting a little selfish about other people doing much of it. Accept my congratulations for your position in society. I guess I get to be chorister and I think that is a great deal nicer than being Pres. I think you ought to come to Cleiorhetia nest Thur. night as I am on the program. The new park, south of here seems to be quite an attractive place especially on Sun., two weeks ago Sam Small spoke there and today How. Van Bennett. Of course the st. cars get the benefit. The supper bell is ringing and I must say good-bye. Trusting that God will care for us while separated, I remain Your Sweetheart, Bertha Lambert. N.B. I will send one of our pictures. If Miss Chandler has not gone you may show it to her if you wish as she has never seen my sisters. B.E.L.
