Context

[Circleville, OH, to Miss Bertha Lambert, Westerville, Ohio, “Franklin Co.”] Circleville, O. Sep. 25, 1896. Miss Lambert, Westerville, O. My Darling Bertha: You looked for a letter this evening, of course you did, but it did not come from me. I am quite well. I left Chillicothe Tues. afternoon and stopped at Kingston over night where I had the pleasure of meeting Bishop J. M. Thoburn at his own home. He has been a missionary now for 38 yrs and started back to the field that evening. I consider it quite an honor to have such a privilege. I sold 4 Studies at Kingston and have made only a fair start in the work here. I don't expect to remain here long as I find that Rev. Wright has the Studies here. I have what I think is one of the finest boarding places I ever found. They are crowded and so they put me in the parlor 'mid elegant furniture, piano, guitar etc. Your letter was here ready for me and it is needless for me to mention of how much I appreciated it. I wish to thank you too for being so very considerate and kind. I expect to do the best I can and shall not forget your tender love. It pleases me to know that you are deeply engaged in your work and doubtless the S.S. class will be a great help to you. I have been thinking seriously of visiting you over Sab. but it is doubtful about so doing. If I thought I would not get into school soon I would do so sure, but I have great faith in being able to be with you permanently soon. I suppose you would not turn me out however if I should come in but I think you need not look for me, sad as it may seem. Tomorrow's mail may determine more about it. I find three of the Ada boys here, two of them board at this house. I will be so far behind in my work that perhaps I had better take the 2d fall term at Ada and take a new start at W. the first of the yr. I have not decided where to go next but will likely go either to Ashville toward Col. or to Lancaster. I don't know where to tell you to write. — Sat. morning, Sep. 26, I received no mail this morning so I am at sea again, but will hardly be likely to visit you until I learn something more definite. I will inform you when I make a change. A new idea has struck me. If you receive this so as to write tomorrow if you please you may direct to Ashville, Pickaway Co. O. placing your box no. for return. Yes I find more strength in God's promises now than ever before and I believe that all will end well. Let us continue in prayer and patient waiting. May God bless our efforts in His work and lead us in His own way. Your lonesome Lover, J. H. Harris.
