My Darling Joe: - I really feel that I have been neglecting you but have not meant to do so. It seems that all the time has been taken up in some way. Monday forenoon I spent in looking up Anna Shull's case. I went to see her and then to see Dr. Mayhugh and they think of having her go to Dayton with me. Mon. afternoon Lora and her mother were here. Tues. we ironed and in the evening entertained Mother's S.S. class, we had chicken, scalloped potatoes, bread & butter, pickles, coffee, Ice-cream & cake. We fixed everything so it kept us busy. They gave mother a lovely silk umbrella. Yesterday, Mother, Carrie, Elsie & I spent the day with Mrs. Adams & Lora. Tues. evening Mr. Kline was here & last evening Mr. Cunningham so you will not wonder if I am rather sleepy. This morning I went to Columbus with Mother, saw her on the train and then went to see Dr. Rogers as I believe you advised me to do. He thought I looked much better than when he last saw me. He administered his usual treatment and says I am some better than a year ago. After looking at my eyes he thought best for me to have a thorough examination before going home, lest my glasses need changing. I disliked very much to have it done just now but I thought perhaps it might save considerable expense some other time. So he gave me medicine to treat them with until Sat. and then I am to go back and have them tested. He asked about you as everyone else has done.
I rec'd your letter Tues. evening. It was very kind of you to send me so much money. I shall spend it carefully. Do not send me any more. If there should be any extra expense connected with my eyes I will arrange to pay it later.
I am so glad to know you are getting along so nicely, but cannot refrain from thinking a great deal about you. I have decided to stay until Mon. if you are well and think you can get along all right as you will be gone over Sun. any way. If you should want or need me to come home sooner let me know (by telegram, if you cannot - otherwise) and I will come any time. Now get plenty to eat and do not try to get everything done. Just shut up the rooms and leave the work Sun. morning.
I am getting pretty anxious to see you but have not been homesick or cried any only a little bit when I told dear mother goodby this morning.
May God still keep my dear boy.
Your loving wife
{Bertha Harris}
