Context

R. M. WARFEL 5361 Park Ave. Bethel Park, Pa. 15102 Dear Bette: I decided I had better answer your letter but this afternoon I did not feel much like writing. The atmosphere is heavy today and it is surely going to rain. I went to needlepoint class this morning and I have learned almost all the stitches. I am glad you got to meet Lucile and Leroy and Dan and his wife. Lucile and Dan were born at the same time and were named after characters in a book aunt Bertha and mother were fond of called Lucile. Dan was named Daniel Alfred and Lucile Mary Lucile. For a long time Dan was called Alfred. While Dan was in Italy getting ready to make his debut in Milan he changed his name to Alfredo Lamberti and it did help when he came out. He sang everything in Italian and spoke the language very well. The only thing I know is that to Winifred the Quaker records just said born to her an infant. If the child lived they named it. If it died they did not. I am glad you found out much more about the Cartwrights. Abner must have thot a lot of her if he changed his religion to Quaker for her. You said his first wife was a Presbyterian. That first wife must have left some property to her son. You said one son died. Natalie is not very well. Bernice told me that. She called me the other night. Natalie had someone with her in Florida and got along that way.... can't see very well. It is interesting about you and golf. Lucile played golf for many years but lately has had arthritis and cannot play. I hope it is not too hot there. It is very hot here today and I have fans going and one air conditioner. I am going to Otterbein for Commencement. My brother has his 50th celebration from graduation and I expect to see him. I am afraid I might not get to see him if I don't go because he had open heart surgery this year. Love, {Pauline}
