Context

Daniel A. Harris 5840 S. W. 48th St. Miami, Florida 33155 August 16, 1978 Dear Dick: I can't remember whether or not I have ever thanked you for your very generous birthday check. Velly solly! and velly glatefur! Aletha went over to Fort Myers Monday morning to help Eva take care of Nana for a week or ten days. It is not an easy situation, especially since Eva and Nana are very much alike in many ways. Aletha manages to pour oil on the troubled waters. After all, what can you expect at 102? I have had some very stimulating work during the past two months. Three young fellows have come to me for work in repertoire and languages. One in particular is preparing to be an opera coach and conductor, under a grant from the National Opera Institute. We have cranked through seven of the standard operas, and will do about a dozen more next spring when he has finished his season as accompanist with the Miami Opera. It is very rewarding to be able to share the knowledge of these operas, accumulated through years of study and performance, with someone who is eager to absorb it. There's not a great deal of money in it, but that's not the important thing. As you may know, Danny has moved to Long Island, N. Y., with his family. He has accepted a position with an engineering firm, located in Great Neck, and they have bought a house in a nearby town. Their address is 18 Meadow Lane, Glen Head, N. Y. 11545. Drop them a note when you have time. It is quite a change from Greensboro. I am sorry to be such a lousy letter writer. We hope all goes well with you, and that you have some interesting people to work with. Thanks again for the birthday bonus. Drop us a note one of these days. As ever, Dan P. S. July was a significant month in our family. July 14 was Dad's birthday, I believe. and July 30 was Jim's. D.
