To the Members & Friends of 5th Ave. United Brethren Church, greetings:
Dear Friends:
I appreciate your invitation to be present on this anniversary day.
I think it was twenty-nine years ago tomorrow that the first service was held in this church.
I am very sorry that I cannot be with you in person, but be assured I shall be with you in Spirit.
As I look back over the years especially 1910 – 1919 a number of names & faces seem to crowd my memory. Luckhart, Weson, Shaw, Pace, McCleery, Carpenter, Irwin, Osborn, and many others. Most of these worked faithfully with my husband on the building committee for years before this project was carried out.
Practically every one in the church gave regularly out of their limited income that we might might have this beautiful building.
Many of these have gone to their reward & they need no greater monument to their memory than this church. Standing as it does on this busy street, it continues to point the way of Eternal life to all races and peoples.
May God continue to grant his blessing on the work of this church.
I think the cost of the church & parsonage was about $55,000.
We moved into the parsonage in April 1916 but the dedication was June 25 as I recall. Some people said we could never pay for the church and that our grand-children would still be paying on it, but I believe it was paid out in 12 years.
