Dear ones: - I left Portsmouth 8:10 Sat in the Inter-State Bus via Ironton Russelle Kenova arriving at Huntington 11:30. I got dinner and inquired about the bus. Pretty soon the restaurant man pointed at the bus driver at lunch who told me that he would leave at 12:30 and that Gilbert Dille would get on his bus at 22nd St which he did and we rode together to within half mi of his home. The boys were at the pike to meet a truck which was bringing a new table from Huntington. They put it on the sled and started up a steep rocky bank that I thought would tax a goat. A horse was up on the hillside and I asked Gilbert how it got up there. We walked up a long hollow to the house which stands on the top of a high hill. The still live in the log house but are planning to build a new bungalow. They have a wooden latch with the string hanging out. The house has a partition with low upstairs without windows. I met the Mrs and two girls. They insisted that I eat another dinner. Uncle Geo. soon came and did not go home while I was there. He talked day and night. They were all so kind and made things pleasant for me. They had a great stack of beef and then the boys were out with the dog and caught a fat ground-hog. Mrs did not want to cook it but the boys insisted. Cousin Gilbert said he thought the catching of the ground hog was […]dential They killed two chickens Sunday so we had chicken, beef, and ground hog meat for dinner. 28 different persons were there on Sunday, severa of whom I had never seen. We got up at 4 Monday and I rode with Gilbert on the bus arriving at Huntington 6:45. As it was early I took bus on the Ohio side and got down to Sam Selby's at 7:45 (C.T.) I took early dinner with them and Sam took me to Ironton. We looked at their new house in Ironton 1531 S. 5th St. It is a new and good house. Mr Hill met me and took me to Carmon's Creek for afternoon and we had the meeting at Ironton at night. Hill took me to Lecta next morning where I conducted meeting afternoon and evening. It rained hard all night. Beegle took me to Racine next morning. The mud roads were [fine?]. We got stuck and had a team pull us out. Had two meetings at Racine & Syracuse then came to Athens on bus after service. Stayed at Palmer House and to Guysville. Held service this afternoon at Lottridge and on to Constitution tonight. Must close as […] is ready to go.
Love to all
Papa.
P.S. Richard will take note that we passed the place where spilled his dinner. JHH
