Dear Dick:
Thank you for your nice letter, and for the birthday check.
I was delighted to receive a warm letter from Ed Burtner. He has your latest address, and I'm sure you will hear from him soon.
I do hope you will send some background information to the Seminary. As you know, I was in Europe at the time, and knew very little about Dad's relationship with the Seminary. I do know that every institution was having financial problems at the time. Was Dad pressured into accepting the position as President of the Seminary? What was the situation?
I was also happy to receive a letter from our nephew — Paul J. Harris, Jr., including some excellent pictures that he had taken in Oberlin and Columbus — our house in Oberlin, and the old church and parsonage on Fifth Avenue in Columbus. It took me back a good many years! He also included an excellent photo of his two children - P. J. - aged 9 and Abby - aged 7 1/2.
I do appreciate your letters, Dick, and all the thoughtful things you do at the Cemetery. Try to get all the exercise you can, — and do write to Ed Burtner —
Much love,
Your brother
Dan
P.S. I can't believe I'm 84!

Dear Mr. Harris:
Thank you so much for your generous gift of $10,000 establishing the Joseph H. Harris Memorial Student Scholarship Fund. We have great need for such endowments in light of the increasing costs of education and the increasing number of students seeking admission to the seminary to study ministry.
I would like to know about youor father. He served the school and the church during a very difficult time. I am sure you must have information that would not be available from other sources. I know the official biographical material that is contained in the seminary archives, but it occurrs to me that there might be letters, correspondence, diaries, or other things that your father might have kept that might be of invaluable historical interest to the Center for the Study of EUB History.
I am not sure when I will get to Miami again. However, the next time I do get to Florida I will contact you with the hope that we might be able to meet and get better acquainted.
Again, please accept our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for you generosity in establishing the fund to honor your father as a part of our permmanently endowed student scholarship monies.
Sincerely yours,
Henry W. Brooks
