Context

[The Church of the United Brethren in Christ Letterhead] October 30, 1929. Having been chosen President of Bonebrake Theological Seminary Dayton, Ohio by the trustees of said institution, I solemnly promise and declare to perform all the duties incident to this high office. I believe the Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God and with the Holy Spirit the only perfect rule of faith and practice. I believe the Confession of Faith as set forth in our book of Discipline. I am also in hearty accord with our form of Church government and will seek to maintain and uphold the polity of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ as I understand it. I furthermore promise and declare that I will endeavor to interest the entire denomination in this sacred institution, enlist new students from year to year and gather funds for its support. Through the aid of the dean and other members of the faculty it will be my highest joy to maintain a high standard of scholarship and exalt the name of Jesus Christ through all the studies offered in the curriculum. So long as God Gives me health and I remain president of this institution I will loyally maintain and support the same, God being my helper. To all of the above I subscribe. Signed. President
