Context

Mrs. Richard M. Warfel 5361 Park Avenue Bethel Park, Pa. 15102 Thursday Jan 19, 1978 Thank you for the sheet you enclosed with your Christmas card. I have a lot of stuff including all the facts about my grandmother Deborah Vernon Embree who married Daniel Lambert. I also have facts concerning all her family....all their names and dates. She was the middle child. These came out of the Quaker index. One of these days I will send those and other things to you. There are not very many of us left. All the Maynes are gone. John Mayne died this year. He lived in Arlington, Va. He was a fine minister for the Foundry Methodist Church in Washington DC. Their head minister was in the Senate and John was a pastor. He had retired but he lost his mind. When he was taken to Kansas where Anne went he had to have a male nurse take him. I think it was on the train. Then shortly after that he died. Anne sold their Arlington home and bot a house near her daughter Betty. Betty's husband is a professor in the University. Anne was Anne Wilson of Westerville, Ohio. I knew her all thru school. She went thru the Junior year in Otterbein College but was married in 1923 when John graduated from college. Her father owned a real estate company in Westerville. She has one brother Zane. Anne went to Calif to visit her son Bob at Christmas and then she was to go on a tour of the Holy Land. I remember a friend earned her way thru Otterbein College working in Mr Wilson's real estate office. Anne never worked there. I heard from Gertrude Mayne at Christmas. She was Dan Mayne's wife....Gertrude White. She now lives in an apartment in Rochester N.Y. She owns a farm and a farm house but her son John lives there and runs the farm where there are many blooded cows. They keep their genealogy in a den at the farm house for all are worth a lot of money. Dan was the most successful of the Mayne family. He graduated from Ohio State in Science and then in engineering. After that he graduated the George Wash. Un in Patent Law. He was the head of the patent lawyers at Eastman. There were 54 lawyers. He also was a vice president. He had to retire early because of his heart. After that the company sent him all over Europe. He bot the farm as a gentleman's farm. He never got any profit from it. He gave all the profit to his son John. But he owned the farm and the cows. They hired a farmer also. They had a swimming pool at the house. Horace died several years ago. He was married and had one son, Rodger (his mother's name was Rodgers). He is also dead now. Horace was divorced from his wife and she lived in Florida. I suppose she is dead now also. I don't know. Anyhow Horace made a lot of money and gave a dormitory to Otterbein College in memory of his mother Hannah Lambert Mayne. Her picture hangs in the dorm. Dwight, after Martha died, lived in Ontario Calif. Henrietta lived there for a number of years also but they went back to Michigan. Dwight stayed on and died last year. They went back to Michigan because Bruce, Dwight's son in law, liked the change in the weather. They are all teachers. Henrietta teaches and Bruce and she has 2 daughters and a son. The daughters are married but also teach I believe. Dwight had 2 daughters who both graduated from Otterbein College. The other girl lives in Mt Vernon O. She had 6 children. Helen was married to a minister by the name of Rawe (I'm not sure of the spelling). She died in 1918 of the flu. [End of Page 1] Marie knows all about the present generation of Alva Lambert's family. She is his only living child. Her nephews help look after her. Alva had 5 children. Ralph was Lucile's age. He was married and had one child a girl. He died a good many years ago. There was Frank and he was married with a number of children. He died many years ago. There was Claire who lived in Wessington Springs S. Dakota. Glenn was the oldest and the main stay of the family. He lived in Fort Wayne. His wife died this year. My Sister and her husband are going to Florida next week. I do not know their address there. They will come here on the way down and will let me know their address. Lucile was very sick this winter. She had heart trouble and was in the hospital but is home now. Seems to be all right. They might go near Orlando. My brother in law, Dick's only brother lives now at Winter Park... Herbert Warfel. He lived for many years in Puerto Rico. I have been sick. I had intestinal flu all last week. This week we are snowed in. Have 2 feet of snow in my drive altho paths have been shoveled. I would look up more of the genealogy but I do not feel but I do not feel like doing anything. Some day I will get at it again. I think the things you found out about the family were very interesting. My mother's side of the family is very interesting also. She was an Adams but got into the D.A.R. thru the Eastman family.... same as the Eastman K Co. One of her grandmother's was an Eastman. Her ancestor was a first cousin of John Adams the president. Came from the same town.... Braintree. My mother has been dead for so many years. She died before I was married in 1930. People go everywhere. Lucile's Rodney's mother and father in law are going to South America. I think it has something to do with Koppers Corp however. Before he retired he was a vice president of Koppers. They pay his way sometimes to be a contact for the company. Wonder if you will go to Florida this year. I have been only once. Natalie our first cousin goes to Fr Myers but at home she lives in a retirement home. Everything I belong to was called off this week so I am bored. I can't even get to town. It is to snow again this evening. Well I hope next week I will be all right. Love, {Pauline}
