Context

[Box 15, Plantsville, OH, to Mrs. J. H. Harris, Box 344, Westerville, Ohio] Plantsville O. 10 P.M. Aug 24, 1898 Darling Bertha: I just returned from last service of convention and feel quite sleep but cannot refrain from talking to you a few moments. All is silent and I sit in our room with your picture before me but the silence is awful. After leaving you I went home and did some writing. Tuesday morning I chored until 10 and then went to the office as a storm hindered me from going the evening before. In the afternoon your father came but Howard and I had to help Levi Rardin thresh so I left father to visit with him. We went to services together in the evening to hear Bro Geiger. This A.M. we finished at Rardin's and I came home for convention. They had a basket dinner and everything went along nicely. I got along better than I supposed I would. They want me to come to Bartlett again. Hemisfor preached tonight but the rain hindered some. Father will preach tomorrow night. He is making several calls. Seth was at the office today but no word from you as mails are slow and you must have been extremely weary when you arrived at W. I am well, but miss you very very much. I will write you just as soon as I hear from that work. L. D. will take Aunt Mary home tomorrow. My father has a severe cold. Pug went with me to the barn this morning but got scared out when I went up into the mow. The rest of the folks are quite well. Grandmother misses you very much. I may help Galbraith thresh tomorrow. So far as I now see I think we might arrange for the Sem. Did you write to that lady at Dayton? God's dealings may seem mysterious to us, but all will come well in the end. May God bless my little girl and keep her safe. Make such arrangements as you choose, but do not burden yourself, please. I may come to you Sat., but it is not likely. How was mother's fruit? Remember me to all the family. Your loving husband J. H. Harris.
