Dear Cousin Paul,
Thank you so much for the material you sent. Sorry it has taken me so long to acknowledge, but time seems to slip by so rapidly!
We arrived home March 22nd from Florida. All my children were home at various times in May, which kept me busy. Between the household chores and the doctor appointments, I manage to sometimes forget my correspondence.
I have been entering my material into the PAF file and have also written up some of the families in book form in my Word Perfect Program. The WPP is the format I use for publication.
A Brenda and Roland Markee, Monroe, OH, have just published a book on the Markee family. It covers Emaline Alloway, d/o William R. and Sarah (Harris) Alloway. I haven't seen the book but would like to — don't know if I want to part with almost $40! They have offered to help me publish the Alloway line. At this point, I don't think there is a large enough market to come out with just an Alloway book. Taking that into consideration, I thought an Ellis/Alloway/Harris/Thomas book might bring in more sales. On the other hand, I'm not sure I want to get into publishing again.
Which brings me to the question of, "What are you planning to do with your Harris material?" You have enough now to publish a book.
I haven't had time to do research. We plan to go to Michigan this weekend. We'll leave Friday and probably come home Tuesday. I hope I can find a few extra hours so I can go to the Burton Library.
My daughter bought a house in Beverly Hills (Birmingham address and schools) which I am anxious to see. Also my oldest son has not been feeling well and has been going through some tests. He is having another CAT SCAN today. By the end of the week, he should have some answers. I hope they are good. They found a small spot near his liver which needs explaining. My line to God sure has been kept busy!
No, I am not aware of John and Sarah North's children. The 1910 census might help identify Lenora McP.
I do have some corrections to the Bible records. Sarah Harris & William "Alway" were m. 15 Mar 1827 (BK. 3, p. 81; I have a copy of the record); Sarah H. Alloway m. Thomas L. Dewees 4 Nov 1845 (Bk. B); Jordan Harris m. Mary F. Deweese 5 Nov 1845 (Vol. B, p. 202).
Did I ever send you a copy of the Ellis record of the Harris family? One is enclosed. Also, did I tell you I have a picture of J. W. Harris and his wife? If you don't have one, will be glad to share.
Planted eight tomato and four green pepper plants — will have feast or famine!
I have corresponded with a Col. Harry H. Ellis, RET, since 1978. I wrote him on April 1st, and received it back with a note attached by his wife that he died suddenly March 27, 1991. I must admit, it shook me to the core. We were corresponding on a regular basis. He was gathering and enlarging his Ellis material getting ready to publish again. He did publish our Ellis line about 1984, which I helped him with. Over the years, I had requested a picture, but he always promised but never quite got around to sending me one. His wife did; I shall treasure them always as she sent me three. I was concerned about what would happen to all of his research material. She said she packed it up and put it in a closet as his son thought he might one day pick up where his dad left off. His son is more than qualified to carry on — has quite a list of accomplishments. I was glad to hear of his interest as Harry lived and breathed genealogy.
Any N. Olmstead plans in your future? When you were here before, I felt stupid regarding the computer. Now, I am a little more comfortable with it, although I still have a lot to learn. If you get over this way, please let me know. I'm curious, how can you incorporate all my material in with yours and keep the same RIN numbers you had originally?
Must close, do chores and run to the store. Tomorrow, we go over to University Hospital so Bob can have a skin cancer removed. It is located in his scalp behind the left ear. They remove one layer at a time, analyze it to see if another layer has to be taken off. He has had several skin cancers removed but his doctor felt he should have this one removed by the above procedure.
Hope we can get together soon.
Sincerely,
Genevieve Ellis Gross
