Dear Paul,
Here are 2 letters I thought you might like for your collection of family history.
I do not know the date when the Lays came to St. Paul to live with my grandparents Emma & Arthur Harris. I presume the Rev. J. H. Harris (Joseph I believe) was your grandfather or would it be great grandfather? When he refers to Daniel is that the music professor who taught at Oberlin?
I am not sure of the illness he was referring to that Mrs. Lay had. I know she had a nervous tic in her face at one time. Also I know that she became addicted to drugs that she was given & when she realized she had become addicted she stopped "cold turkey" on her own accord. My father could probably tell you more about it.
The other letter about Aunt Ida refers to Ida Lambert Harris wife of Jordan. The words "Save About Grandmother Harris "Aunt Ida" is in my grandmother's handwriting (Emma Lay Harris). When she refers to Arthur giving her [gold] from Europe I believe she is referring to the time when J. Arthur Harris studies at Kew Gardens in London. That would be about 1909.
I have made copies of these so you may keep the originals.
Best wishes for a nice Christmas ahead.
Love,
Nancy Curtis
