Context

[Assumed date of January 1954 as Frances Harris' funeral was 4 January 1954] The First Presbyterian Church 620 W. GENESEE STREET SYRACUSE, N. Y. Dear Dick: Enclosed is a check for our expense toward flowers for Frances. Thank you for looking after this for us. I wrote Uncle Leonard's a long letter, and hope things will adjust for them. How is your school work going? We enjoyed so much your Christmas visit with us. We are go glad that we got the tape recording of that happy day together with Mother. Judging from Dan's letter. we must all prepare ourselves for Mother's call, when it comes. I do hope that she will not suffer these closing years or months. We are writing to her every several days and I hope you are doing the same. At times it seemed to us that the real Mother we knew was not here. The thing for us all to remember is that death is but an incident in such a great soul. I firmly believe that Dad, Ted and Robert will somehow, in a spiritual sense, be awaiting her. We who wait should look upon the going of our loved ones, not in an emotional selfishness, but, especially in Mother's case as one who has "fought the good fight — and kept the faith!" You have been a wonderful son to her and in these closing months or years she will appreciate your affection & interest especially in your letters and occasional visits. I hope to stop by on way home from Chicago on March 21st. We should all be considerate of Aletha and urge Dan to get help for her if necessary. Your checks to Mother's support are deeply appreciated and Paul & I will see what we can do when I am out there. We are anxiously awaiting the pictures you took at Christmas, as we might want to use one in our Easter family letter. Send them along and let us know the cost. Jimmy and Suzie have had colds, but are well now. Write and let us know about the pictures. We all send our love to you, Jim
