Context

[Lake Geneva, WI, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Box 219, Athens, Ohio.] Lake Geneva Wis. 7-10, '97. Mr. J. H. Harris, Athens O. My Darling Joe: — It was a very sweet surprise yesterday evening to take your letter from the box. We have quite a unique post office here. It is open to everybody, as we are all supposed to be strictly honest. The last few days have been the warmest that have been known here for some time, but it is cooler this morning and I hope will not be so warm. Yesterday afternoon we visited the new Yerkes Observatory. It is a wonderful sight. I am well and could not ask more than I now enjoy if you were only here. It just seems that there is something lacking in my life since you are away. Last evening we had such a fine address by Dr. Hall of N.Y. on [Secset] Prayer. I feel that so much has come into my life since I came here that I never knew before. I think of you so much these very warm days and pray that God may keep you safe for the work I believe he has for you to do. I do not know where to tell you to write. I have written to Uncles' in Chicago but have rec'd no word as yet. If I do not hear from them I will probably go direct to Westerville as they are apt to be out of the city such warm weather. I hardly think I am likely to get a position in the dining hall and may not accept it if I should, so I expect to leave here Tues. morning at 6:30 and will get home some time Wed. forenoon, will get to Columbus about six or seven I think. I will write again Mon. and try to tell you what I will do. If you write you may address me at Westerville as far as I know now. I hope to see you before many weeks and may God direct you and keep you safe. Your own true one. Bertha E. Lambert.
