Westerville, O., June 15, '96.
Mr. J. H. Harris,
Marietta, O.
My dear Joe: — I was very glad to receive you inspiring letter today. As usual D. I. carried it an hour or two. I felt somewhat anxious to hear from you for I hardly knew where you were and feared you did not get my letters last week.
I am taking life comparatively easy at home with Mother. I find plenty to do sewing, keeping house & etc, but I have hardly thought of books since school closed.
Otterbein started away this afternoon, but like some other people who do not want to leave, he missed the train at Columbus and came back. He thinks he will make another attempt tomorrow. Yesterday I went down in the country with Carrie and an “old Bachelor” brought us home in a fine buggy. His name was Joe but it was not my Joe, although I wished many times that it were.
I still think I will canvass for those Bible studies. The more I study them the more I like them. I expect to try them at least and if I succeed reasonably well I will not take up the music class again as it would keep me at Iberia longer than I feel like I can stay.
I am glad to know that you are succeeding so nicely with your work, and hope you may continue the rest of the summer.
Everything here seems very quiet, the Dayton “gang” left today, & several of the students seem glad to know that most of them will never be back.
I fear Marietta College would not suit you unless you could take dancing lessons. I assure you it would be very pleasant to enjoy another visit from you.
May God bless and keep you in all your work.
Your true one,
Bertha Lambert.
