My dear Mr. Harris:
I send you some books, which possibly may be of use to you. I confess I could not read and inwardly digest Dorneis work. It is too obscure for me. I hope you can make something out of it.
My daughter told me of the heavy loss you have sustained in the death of your son. I can sympathize with you as I lost two fine boys. As I look back, I am thankful that I had them for a few years. They were a joy to me that I cannot express. I send you and your wife & family my sincerest sympathy.
With very kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
George C. Lay
Rev Joseph H. Harris
P.S. Arthur has received word that he has been awarded a medal and honorarium by an English Society, given every seven years to the man who has distinguished himself most highly in Biology. He is a wonderful student & his work has now been recognized in England. A scholar, who publishes constantly, is certainly known and appreciated.
