an axlike tool, for dressing timbers roughly, with a curved, chisellike steel head mounted at a right angle to the wooden handle. Blade is perpendicular to the handle.
unlike an ax an adze is used up and down not side to side to cut something down but to shape it
Sometimes written as ADDES in older books. Principal tool of the old time ship builder in the days of wooden ships. Shaper blade slightly curved inwards towards handle. ( considered difficult to use)Collection

Metal is disconnected from wooden handle. Metal is tarnished and has imprints on it. Wood is knicked and some parts are cracked.
