Found in the Savannah River in Georgia in 1978 by Manhattan Island dredge which is a ship built by Bethlehem Steel.
Marked with Williams and Sons, Jersey City, NJ 1915 USLHS. This stands for United States Lighthouse Service. Williams and Sons was the company contracted with the USLHS at the time to make these bells. It has no clapper inside. It is believed to be a fogbell at an offshore buoy because of its size. On shore fogbells were about double the diameter and height of this one.Collection
