ON August 29,2005, Hurricane Katrina raged through the Gulf coast creating chaos on land and sea. The deadly storm left more than 1,500 people dead, countless lives uprooted, and tens of thousands of square miles of property destoryed.
The Coastal Survey Navigation Response teams were among the first to arrive on the scene. They worked tirelessly alongside other NOAA navigation offices, re surveying and re charting vital waterways. In less than two weeks all 13 major Gulf coast ports and channels were safe for commerce and ship based relief
