Description

Hand lantern 14" tall by 7" wide. contains two removeable parts inside- 2004.04.36.01: the wick and kerosine base with attched finger handles, and 2004.04.36.02: detachable glass globe to cover the wick. glass globe is covered in soot, so it has gray color. Also inner cover of lamp is covered in soot. Also has attached handle and chain for mounting in ship. possible anchor lantern??

Lantern still appears in useable condition, with all parts intact- doors still open, and handle still attached. Interior of glass globe and crown are covered with layers of soot, brass is also tarnished with age, though not as heavily as other brass items in collection. Date of lantern (1920s) is only guessed at. glass from the inside is cracked and sharp soot has been cleaned off 10/16/2006

Lantern appears in usable condition- Brass is tarnished, and outer glass casing and inner glass globe are covered with soot. Soot is also on the inner surface of the top of lantern. Handle, chain, and general structure are intact. Damage Information: Only damage noted is accumulation of soot on interior of lantern.
