Came from a Portuguese ship called the "Sacramento" which sailed from Goa in India for Portugal in 1647. A few months later she foundered in a storm off the inhospitable Eastern Cape coast and was wrecked. Several hundred sailtors, soldiers, and noblemen lost their lives in the disaster and only a handful survived to recount the story.
