Pump, Bilge

Name/Title

Pump, Bilge

Entry/Object ID

2001.01.97

Description

This one was used in a ship that has water entering, they would set it upright and then let the spout face over the edge into the water. They would then use the second peice which has leather at the bottom to pump the water up to the hole on the side (the one that faces the water) so that the water in the boat pumps back into the ocean/river Stands up right on a wooden stand Bottom of copper reads: SLK China This type of bilge pump is easier to use since its not two peices and the man power was probably easier (less manpower needed) One peice which stands straight up, made of copper (??) and was possibly mounted on the side of the boat in case needed (??)
