U.S. Navy Sextant. Brass plate reads, "US Navy, Bureau of Ships. E.T.S. Sextant. Mark 2 Mid. O N. 29107. Contract No. NXSX-42867 1943. Bendix Aviation Corporation Eclipse Pioneer division. Teterboro, New Jersey, U.S.A" The date 1943 is marked over with a 4 to make the year 1944.
Wooden box has brass handle, clips to hold shut and top corner pieces. Condition of the box is fair as there are numerouse scratches and wear. Inside box is the sextant equipment with well used pencils and a letter that is a bill of sale to Mr. James K. Davidson on purchasing this item in 1974. On inside of lid is a sticker from the seller, M. Low, Inc with address as well as a sticker from the US Naval Observatory dated 1945, a chart of the sun's declination and equation of time at apparant noon, and a sticker from Negus Naticial Instruments."
Letter was removed from box and put in accession folder for reference.Collection
