Description

Hokule'a The Way to Tahiti Book Published 1979 Ben R Finney, an anthropologist at the University of Hawaii, led this project to reconstruct an ancient double-hull Polynesian canoe, then to sail it without navigational instruments on a 6000-mile trip to Tahiti and back. From the DJ: "When at long last the voyage to Tahiti began, it was the start of 34 days of grueling sailing against wind and current, of suspense over finding land without instruments, and of problem after problem caused by despairing crewmen and interfering filmmakers. In spite of these obstacles they made it to Tahiti, enjoyed a month-long welcoming there, and returned successfully to Hawaii.
