James W Roberton was born in Honolulu, December 12, 1852, was educated in local schools and at Koloa, Kauai, and in 1876 married Rose Cleghorn, daughter of the late Governor, A. S. Cleghorn. (See separate entry for A. S. Cleghorn).
In 1882, he started "Daily Bulletin", which afterward became the "Evening Bulletin", and finally merged with the Hawaii Star, as the Star Bulletin. In 1886 he entered the customs and remained in government service until the reign of Liliuokalani when he became chamberlain, retiring with the Queen in 1893.
He entered the employ of C Brewer & Co., in 1895 and had been there ever since.Created By
