Dr. W. F. McConkey had established in 1909 to provide services to indigent tuberculosis patients. Placed at the apex of a hill at the 3,500-foot elevation, the new building allowed patients access to fresh country air and sunshine. The rooms' screened lanai allowed patient beds to be rolled directly outside and solariums were located at the ends of each floor. Tuberculosis had been the leading cause of death in Hawaii in 1909.Created By
