Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 12 of the first Hawaii Legislature authorized the issuance of a bronze medallion commemorating the admission of Hawaii into the Union. The resolution specified that the obverse side of the medallion should carry the map of Hawaii with the words "Hawaii, The Aloha State," and August 21, 1959, the date of admission by proclamation issued by President Eisenhower.
