Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art Curator Lynn Whitelaw describes Suzanne Camp Crosby as “probably the most sincere person I've ever known. I'd say she was an incredible teacher and I think the legacy of a good teacher is through their students. You talk to any student who's had Suzanne and they say she had a tremendous impact on their life.” Camp Crosby created thematically directed photographs, often adding unexpected objects or people to mundane scenes. This sense of whimsy is seen in The Pink Sweetheart, where a figure in a pink dress sits on a concrete bench, surrounded by pink flowers. The sitter holds a pink, heart-shaped box over their face, playfully concealing their expression. In Camp Crosby’s photography as well as her life, she searched for the joy and playfulness in the everyday.
