Carolyn Heller (1937-2011)
Untitled #078, c. 1980-2011
monoprint
30 x 40 in.
Gift of Fran Heller, 2022.12.7
Untitled #078 continues Carolyn Heller’s exploration of bold shapes and vivid colors. This abstract work recalls watercolor brushstrokes, as large swaths of blue and brown occupy this monoprint. Heller was influenced by abstract expressionism early in her 60-year career, yet her style evolved to embrace an unambiguous and playful vitality that mirrored her exuberant personality. Beginning with print-making, wood-cuts and acrylics on canvas in the 1950s, she later expanded her art practice into mixed-media on fabric, furniture and other everyday items. In every context, her work was sensual and full of energy.
This work of art is a part of the HCC Permanent Art Collection. The HCC Art Galleries, through their Campus Loan Outreach Program, seek to share original art by collecting a diversity of works for the education and enjoyment of the HCC Community.
