Carolyn Kossar was a Florida-based fiber artist who made weavings, tapestries and sculptures that emphasize connections between humanity and the environment, often by combining organic and man-made materials. In Paradise I, Kossar weaves together dyed maroon fabric and Carter Smith shibori on top of found organic detritus. Her practice often included the incorporation of various materials found during her walks in both Florida and New England, collecting remnants of the two places closest to her. Kossar was HCC’s Gallery Director for 20 years and was incredibly active within the Tampa community.
This work of art is a part of the HCC Permanent Art Collection. The HCC Art Galleries, through their Campus Loan Outreach Program, seek to share original art by collecting a diversity of works for the education and enjoyment of the HCC Community.
