Tom Kramer (1934-2022) Helen Hansen-French, 2010 photograph 28.5 x 24.5 in. Gift Maryann Scyocurka, Sister, from the Estate of Carolyn S. Kossar, 2022.1.11 Tom Kramer was a dance, film, and theater photographer based in the Tampa Bay area. Kramer’s striking photograph of HCC dance faculty member Helen-Hansen French freezes the dancer mid-leap, one foot kicking in the air and both arms above her head. She is adorned in an orange, flowing garment, which suggests the energetic movement of her performance. As Kramer explained, “A good dance photograph has to be both a fine image and a representation of excellence in dance. It has to be technically proficient—both in the photographic and dance techniques… and that is challenging and exciting.” This work of art is a part of the HCC Permanent Art Collection. The HCC Art Galleries, through their Campus Loan Outreach Program, seek to share original art by collecting a diversity of works for the education and enjoyment of the HCC Community.
