Lisa McCarthy’s Enter Here is an expansive mixed media mural that blends memory and spontaneous drawing. Layering Mylar over paper, McCarthy creates vivid depth and color in a scene that teeters between celebration and mayhem. Inspired by personal recollections—a pencil stabbing a leather chair, dance lessons, a buried garbage can, eating a hostess cupcake—the work invites viewers to enter anywhere within its swirling network of memory. Exhibited at HCC in the fall of 2023 as part of an exhibition titled Leftovers, McCarthy’s mural also reflects on what we retain from the past—objects, moments or meanings—as both cherished keepsakes and creative remnants, full of potential, nostalgia and emotional charge.
This work of art is a part of the HCC Permanent Art Collection. Through its Campus Loan Outreach Program, HCC Art Galleries seek to share original works by collecting a diversity of art for the education and enjoyment of the HCC community.
