Carolyn Kossar was a Florida-based fiber artist who made weavings, tapestries and sculptures that emphasize connections between humanity and the environment, often by combining organic and man-made materials. The exterior form of this mixed media sculpture is composed of a dried palm seed pod, most likely gathered by the artist after a summer storm. Inside, twisted copper wire strung with metal and glass beads sits on top of a bed of purple felt, creating a delicate interior that contrasts hard and soft textures. By taking simple found objects and transforming them into art, Kossar highlighted the importance of finding moments of joy in the mundane.
