Notes

Miguel Fleitas (born Jun 22, 1956) is a Contemporary Cuban/American Artist. Miguel Fleitas is a creator by nature, with more than 25 years of experience in the industry of cinematography and television. Whether as director, cameraman or photographer-always, his career has been joined narrowly to the Art and has constantly been developed in different artistic demonstrations. Fleitas has obtained prizes and international recognitions thanks to the talent accumulated in his path.To me painting has always been a great mystery, like a secret and something I‘ve always loved. Perhaps, I get it of inheritance from my father that was immense creator and also painter. And little by little I began to express myself in this artistic demonstration, which fills me with satisfaction and hopefully it accompanies me always. I don’t measure myself – I express myself. I don’t think about rules, but instead I think about the moment. Miguel Fleitas.

Miguel A. Fleitas (b. 1956) Quiet Moments, 2009 photograph on Kodak professional endura metallic paper 9.25 x 13 in. Gift of Antonio Permuy, in memory of Marta Permuy, 2024.7.1 Miguel A. Fleitas has held professional careers in painting and photography as well as television media production. His experience in television and film influenced his art through the exploration of mass media’s impact on society, which led him to focus on small, ordinary moments within the fast-paced movement of contemporary life. Quiet Moments was taken in the Cauley Square Historic Village in Miami. While the bananas occupy the focal point of the image, Fleitas explores associations and visual texture by varying camera focus as well as contrast of light and shadow to draw the viewer’s attention. By capturing the scene in black and white, the artist emphasizes qualities of stillness and serenity, which contrasts sharply with the bustling modern metropolitan areas outside of the frame. This work of art is a part of the HCC Permanent Art Collection. Through its Campus Loan Outreach Program, HCC Art Galleries seek to share original works by collecting a diversity of art for the education and enjoyment of the HCC community.
