Justin Nelson was born on November 15th, 1985 in Astoria, Oregon. He studied printmaking with Tracy Reller at HCC, Ybor. He has shown in Tampa at Tempus Projects and Chris Kelly’s Gallery in Seminole Heights.
With a father in the military, he frequently moved from state to state while growing up. This has imbued him with a love for travel and exploration, which in turn inspires much of his visual narrative.
His recent body of work focuses on personal experiences and exploration. In his mixed media drawings, he creates strange people, landscapes, and objects often inspired by photographs he has taken in his travels. Sometimes grotesque, sometimes beautiful, they are representative of experiences he has encountered while exploring distant places.
